Mumbet at the NMAAHC

Photo above is the statue of Elizabeth Freeman in the historical galleries at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Elizabeth Freeman, known as Mum Bett, is at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The display includes the above plaque which reads:

“If one minute’s freedom had been offered to me and I had been told I must die at the end of that minute, I would have taken it.” –Elizabeth Freeman
