Mumbet after winning her freedom joined the Theodore Sedgwick family as a paid servant, first in Sheffield, where the family lived at the time (photos of the Sedgwick Sheffield home are shown on the Theodore Sedgwick page). Later the Theodore Sedgwick family moved to Stockbridge and Mumbet moved with the family and served as a paid servant for the family till her death. The photo above is the Sedgwick home in Stockbridge that still exists today. Mumbet, in time, earned enough money to purchase her own home in Stockbridge.
A video produced by KSPS, PBS goes into the Sedgwick home where there is a portrait of Mumbet hanging on the wall.
